Standardized Testing for grades 3 through 7 will take place during the week of April 16
Children will spend approximately two hours each morning, Monday through Thursday, completing the tests. We are using the newest version of the Stanford Achievement Test, the Sat-10. This version is not timed, thus removing some of the anxiety and pressure children might feel during the testing. We reassure the students that these tests are not something on which they receive a grade. All students are given a practice test during which they are free to ask questions of the teacher. During the actual testing, children are provided with plenty of breaks as well as with healthy snacks.

Parents can be helpful to us in several ways as follows:
• Provide your child with a high protein breakfast each morning.
• See that your child gets to bed at a reasonable hour each night.
• Encourage your child to do his/her best and reassure him/her that there is not an expectation to answer every question correctly. Some questions may seem very easy, some will seem difficult.
• Let your child know the tests are not graded.
• Let him/her know that the tests help the school to learn how well each is doing compared to students in other schools across the nation.

We will send the answer documents for machine scoring, and we receive the results sometime in June. You will be mailed a copy of your child’s scores soon afterwards.
French Class Celebration
3rd grade Rainforest
On March 1 the third graders concluded their study of the rainforest with an open house for their parents, grandparents and special friends. The students gave tours to their guests and offered delicious rainforest cuisine. Starting in January, students studied a specific animal of the rainforest. Using their expertise, they educated the ECC and Lower School classes. Along with studying the animals, the students also learned about plants, people, rainfall and different layers of the rainforest. The third graders worked extremely hard throughout the unit and created one of the greatest rainforest experiences ever!

St. Paul's Students Represented at the Carriage Club Ice Show
On Friday, February 24th, over 25 St. Paul's students participated in the Annual Carriage Club Ice Show. After many weeks of practice and hard work by all, these young skaters put on a show for over 400 spectators. The theme of the show, “Celebration” was evident in the many happy smiles worn by each child. With their beautiful costumes, choreography and skating finesse, everyone was ensured a wonderful night! Two participants are former St. Paul graduates: Courtney B. and Alex L. performed solos for all to enjoy. The newest soloists on ice were Haley B. and Lilly H., 7th grade. The Ice Show has been a Carriage Club tradition for over forty years. Another special piece of the night was the National Anthem sung by St. Paul's toddler teacher, Lynnette Rempel and her husband, David.
Abby L., 4th grade, was in charge of the "Clean Skates for Haiti." She undertook this job with much enthusiasm and raised just under $1,000 for clean water for Haiti in partnership with The Red Cross. Congratulations to all of our skaters and their parents who joined in making another special memory for so many.
Ms. Laird Featured in Art Magazine
Congratulations to Ms. Laird who has, once again, had an article about a project she did with our children, published in Arts and Activities. Our students’ work is well-represented and we sincerely appreciate the press – and the good work – provided by Ms. Laird and Mrs. Crumpecker!
