50 Wishes
What’s a birthday without wishes? In
recognition of the 50th anniversary celebration of St. Paul’s we
have replaced fund-a-need with specific wishes from each grade, department, and
for the auction in general. These wishes represent our heart’s desires and are
intended to promote the core values, academic enrichment, technological
advancement, and general betterment of the school. We hope you will help us
fill these wishes to launch St. Paul’s into the next 50 fabulous years.
For more information on 50 & Fabulous please
contact Katie Gregg in the development department at kgregg@speds.org.
Attention All Bibliophiles!
Please take a moment to collect any fine books you may have on hand and donate them to the Annual Faculty/Staff Book Drive.
Books may be placed in boxes by the ECC entrance and near Mr. Darnell's desk starting
Monday, 2/25 - Friday, 3/8.
The books will then be available to the faculty/staff for their reading pleasure over spring break.

Fiftieth Anniversary Kisses Sent to the Neighborhood
Chaplain Bauer’s Service Club got into both the spirit of Valentine’s Day and the 50th Anniversary when they assembled and delivered special Anniversary tumblers filled with chocolate kisses to 50 neighborhood businesses in Midtown that have helped and supported St. Paul’s School throughout its first 50 years.
The Service Club met on Tuesday, February 5th in the lunch room where Chaplain Bauer had set up a highly efficient assembly line to unwrap the tumblers, fill them with kisses, cut and curl ribbon, attach the ribbon and a rubber band to a hand crafted Valentine created by students in the Extended Day program and finally, to attach the ribbon and card assembly to the tumbler. The following week, ten families each took five tumblers and delivered them to our neighbors.
Our neighbors were surprised and delighted to receive their special Valentine and many sang St. Paul’s praises to the delivery teams.
The 50th Anniversary Celebration Committee would like to send a heartfelt thank you to all the students and parents who helped us with this community outreach project.
Next up to celebrate the Anniversary will be the auction and gala, 50 and Fabulous, scheduled for April 6, 2013 at the Marriott Muehlebach Hotel in Downtown Kansas City. You don’t want to miss this very special event.
A Labor of Love
The Fourth Grade classes didn’t have their traditional
Valentine’s Day party, but chose a labor of love instead.
Room Parents Reachel Beichley and Darlia Morris organized
the first Labor of Love Valentine’s Day Service Project during which students
worked in the Pantry to repackage bulk items into smaller containers to serve
more patrons.
Together with several parents and even a few grandparents,
four different teams opened cases of soup and other canned goods, repackaged
bulk laundry detergent and diapers managing to accomplish a great deal of work
in a very limited time frame. It was reported that the Fourth Grade
students worked so diligently on their assigned tasks that they forgot about
their snack and had to eat it on the run from the church back to the
classrooms.
Eason Bond, pantry coordinator, and Nicole Blanc, pantry
volunteer were heard to say “Thank you, thank you, thank you. You can’t
imagine how much this helps us.”
Congratulations to the Fourth Grade for their Labor of Love.
Café Day
On Wednesday, 6 February the 7th Grade French students celebrated the completion of their study of food and restaurant vocabulary with a Café Day. The students simulated a French restaurant as they ordered, ate and paid. Lunch was a baguette sandwich and an Orangina. For dessert Mme Rooney made a tarte au citron and coeur à la confiture cookies. Oo là là! A real French delight for everyone.
Bon Appétit!
Mathcounts
Saturday, February 2, the St. Paul’s Mathcounts team participated in the Western Missouri Chapter Mathcounts competition at Burns and McDonnell. Participants included Caroline M., Caroline S., Lilly H., Zach T., Will P., Colin M., Drake R., Danny T., and Clayton F. The team of Caroline M., Zach, Will and Clayton finished in third place. Clayton, Zach, and Will placed in the top ten and will advance to the state competition on March 9 at the University of Columbia.
First Grade Visitor
First and second grade had Sebastian A.'s family friend, Kailai, come with a wonderful power point presentation for the Chinese New Year. He showed us the size of China compared to an overhead map of the United States to give the students an idea of it's size, the Great Wall, the importance of education and the New Year signs and animals. 2013 is the year of the black snake.
Kailai used to say in Chinese --- Study hard! Advance every day! when he arrived at school. Kailai had the students practice saying this several times in Chinese.
We are so grateful for Kailai's presence with us and his wonderful pictures. They were beautiful!!!
