St. Paul's Community Newsletter

A New Head of School is Selected

We are thrilled to announce that Andrew Myler has accepted our offer and is very honored and excited to serve as our next Head of School. After a very thorough national search to identify our next Head of School, the Search Committee and the Board of Trustees voted unanimously in favor of Andrew’s appointment.

Andrew’s student-centered approach to learning, along with his experience in curriculum design and innovative ideas for professional development, his growth mindset, and his confident yet approachable style, made it clear that he has the essential qualities and characteristics necessary to lead St. Paul’s into the next 50 years.  Andrew possesses a leadership style that promotes clear and direct communication with all constituencies, team building, and a devotion to serving the best interest of the students academically and socially.  Andrew has been described by many as a master teacher and coach, and we believe he will set a positive tone and culture for our school.  He appreciates the daily chapel time we have as an Episcopal school, as an opportunity for community building and serving as a framework for the daily interactions of people of all beliefs and backgrounds.  Andrew’s diverse background and experience will also add to the depth of his leadership.

Andrew will officially begin on July 1, 2014, but in the coming weeks, a transition committee will be formed to help Andrew and his wife, Landis, settle into St. Paul’s and Kansas City. They will visit a couple of times prior to their move this summer to begin their transition.

We hope you share our excitement in welcoming Andrew and Landis to St. Paul’s and Kansas City!

Science Expo Project
This week fifth grade has finished up their Science Expo project. We had a whole Scientific Method unit where we learned the steps of the scientific method and how to conduct a fair experiment. We finished this unit with the Science Expo Project. We have been working on these projects since early October and have been doing a great job with it. We have great projects such as: moldy bread, falling eggs, insulators, soda, exercising, and many more. All of the students are excited to share these projects with their classmates and family. The students came up with these amazing ideas for awesome projects. We invite everyone to come and see these beautiful projects!

Wax Museum

On November 6th, Mr. Stewart’s seventh grade American History class presented the annual St. Paul's American Revolution Wax Museum. As part of the American History curriculum, students researched and portrayed many well known and not so well known historical figures from the American Revolution. Students shared a one minute oral presentation and poster detailing how their chosen individual contributed to the cause of liberty. Many thanks to the students for their hard work on this project.

An Update from Casey Simmons, St. Paul's Annual Fund Chair

I have been having some fun! What a whirlwind this year's Annual Fund campaign has been for me, the committee and the development office. But, the results are record breaking.
88% Participation by our families. This is a ground breaking number. Never in the history of St. Paul's have we seen participation this high.

5 WEEKS! The 5 week pledge drive was a huge success. Your feedback has been over-the-top positive. What a great new approach to capturing our yearly budget shortfall.

No Calls! This was our biggest surprise. We have not picked up a phone. Our team has not picked up a phone. YOU have not been solicited by phone. Can it be true? Talk about remarkable! We managed to exceed our goals without making even one fundraising call. Now that is what I call ground breaking.

Although our 5 week campaign has come to an end, will still be active with alumni and grant applications.  If you have yet to make your pledge or donation, we will be accepting them until June 15, 2014.

I will send a final report next spring. Until then, thank you and have a Happy Thanksgiving!

Annual Fall Food Drive

St. Paul’s Student Council and all the students collected 32,134 food and personal hygiene items for the church food pantry in its annual fall food drive.  The drive not only encourages students to give to those less fortunate, but also provides a little friendly competition among classes.  We are proud of all the students but want to especially recognize those classes that led the school in bringing in the most items.  Mrs. Gruss’s homeroom led the middle school division, Mrs. Nash’s homeroom led the third, fourth, and fifth grade division, Kindergarten led the ECC division and Mrs. Fate’s homeroom led the primary division and was the overall leader for the school.  Well done, teachers and students!!  Thank you also to everyone who helped carry food items to the church and to the faithful Student Council members who collected and organized all the items.

Have a safe and Happy Thanksgiving
from your St. Paul's Family!
