A Message from Liz
Can it be that we have almost reached the halfway mark of
this school year? The signs of the
Christmas season abound – from our five lovely programs to the caroling in the
main foyer each morning this week. But
the first five months have flown by! We
have been delighted to see the progress – socially, academically and physically
– of your children and look forward to the progress the next five months will
bring.
The children are more full of energy than usual this week,
with the anticipation of Christmas, the present-exchanging, the caroling, the
parties, and now the surprise of some unseasonably warm weather. And yet, in walking through the middle school
this morning at 7:45, there were students in every classroom, working
diligently with teachers or each other.
Tests and concluding projects are happening throughout the school, but
the reward will be a more relaxed Friday and the fun of two weeks of play,
family, friends, and extra sleep ahead!
Parents, too, are here each day. Some are working with students, some are
assisting teachers with projects, some are bringing food for parties, some are
delivering presents to teachers (or Secret Santa gifts left at home!), and some
are attending chapel services. It’s a
pleasure to share the happy chaos with you!
We will take a pause in the craziness of all of this
activity on Thursday and Friday to have chapel services in the church. Our toddler through second grade students
will have their service on Thursday and third through eighth graders will share
our second Eucharist of the year together on Friday. These are special ways to remember the tenets
of our faith and to share some prayerful silence, some joyful songs, and a
Christmas message. We hope you’ll join
us.
I’m beginning to realize that, for me, some of these will be
the last of these events that I will experience and I can feel the emotions
welling up inside. Standing in the foyer
this morning and watching the joyous singing – and dancing! – of the carols,
accompanied and led by members of the faculty, filled my heart with joy and
wistfulness. I am as proud of these
children as if they were my own – and too often I refer to them as such.
So please take care of our children over the Christmas
break, enjoy family and friends, and come back relaxed, renewed and ready for
the next half of our year!
Middle School Movie Night
What better way to kick off the Christmas season than to join with friends for a movie and free popcorn. Over seventy Middle School students gathered in the 3rd floor commons on the evening of December 6 for the second annual Student Council-Sponsored Movie Night. Admission was a new toy for the parish Christmas toy drive.

Joints, Bones and Muscles in Third Grade
Dr. Mara Becker gave third grade a visit to talk about joints and bones! This is what the students are currently studying in science. It was a great learning experience. She even put some temporary casts on some students!
In Harmony Choir
Our new and fully expanded “In Harmony Choir” shared their gifts with the larger community, singing at all three chapel services, Bishop Spencer Place, Brighton Gardens, and Claridge Court. Many thanks to these students for their commitment of time in practice and performance and to Mrs. Everly, their Choral Director, and Ms. Meli, who assists Mrs. Everly.
