The Head of School Transition
The Head of School transition is underway! While Liz Barnes is diligently working towards St. Paul’s strategic goals and enjoying remaining activities planned for this school year, Andrew Myler is doing the same at his current school in Macon, Georgia.
At the same time, the St. Paul’s administrative team has been linking with Mr. Myler on a very regular basis on key issues and decisions that will impact next school year. In addition to the Areas of Focus identified by our community last spring, he is already learning all he can about St. Paul’s existing curriculum, program and strategic initiatives so he will be informed and engaged when he becomes our Head of School on July 1, 2014.
Mr. Myler and his wife, Landis, will visit Kansas City at the beginning of April. The details of this visit are still in process, as their primary task will be to find a home in preparation for their move this summer. They will enjoy some time with our school’s faculty and staff, and will have an opportunity to meet with other area Heads of School so Mr. Myler can begin building those relationships.
Plans are also underway to welcome the Mylers once they are here permanently. Please watch for announcements about a “Celebration of New Ministry” to take place early next fall.
We welcome Mr. and Mrs. Myler to Kansas City for their visit this spring!
Planning for Great Expectations, an auction to benefit the St. Paul's Episcopal Day School, is well underway!
The annual auction will be held on Saturday, April 12 at Starlight Theater. Your invitation will arrive after March 24 with all of the details. Raffle items this year include an opportunity to win a diamond necklace, Chiefs' tickets, hotel stays and tuition for one year. An annual part of the auction, Fund-A-Need, is exciting this year. The goal is to raise $30,000 to provide an i-Pad - with training and professional development - for every teacher. Please see the website here for details and to participate in Fund-A-Need now.
If you have any questions, please contact Mary Wetzel or Mary Morris, 2014 Auction Co-chairs.
Mathcounts
The St. Paul's Mathcounts team took third place at the local competition on February 1. Will P., Zach T., and Caroline S. all scored in the top ten as individuals and will advance to state competition on Saturday, March 8 at the University of Missouri.
Mrs. Weideman and “Scoottie”
While playing at recess a few weeks ago, Mrs. Wiedeman sadly broke her ankle. In light of the situation, Kindergarten students named her knee cruiser "Scoottie", a welcome addition to the class, which helps Mrs. Wiedeman get around the school.
St. Paul's Extreme Spirit Challenge
You may have noticed some interesting attire on St. Paul’s students during the last two weeks of February. The St. Paul’s Student Council sponsored a school wide Spirit Spree (also called the Extreme Spirit Challenge in the Middle School). They encouraged students to celebrate their spirit of sportsmanship as they supported St. Paul’s athletes in basketball tournaments, and their spirit of service and generosity as they collected items for the St. Paul’s food pantry. Throughout the school, students were motivated to bring in food by participating in special theme days—Preppy Day, USA Day, and 80's Workout Day, along with our official St. Paul’s spirit day. In the Middle School, homerooms competed with one another for the coveted Spartan Spirit Award. Classes received points for participation in the theme days, food items donated to the pantry, attendance at games, box tops, and money collected for Haiti in a special “Chew for Change” event in which students could chew gum (provided by Student Council) during Middle School Block. At the end of the week, hundreds of items were collected for pantry, $76 was raised for our sister school in Haiti, and Mrs. Jackson’s seventh grade homeroom will receive the honor of displaying the Spartan Spirit Banner in their classroom.Calendar Notes
