The First Event of our Auction – The Gift Gathering Party
What a glorious evening of black and white fun we had on Saturday, January 26!  The Gift Gathering Party at the home of John and Marny Sherman was so beautifully orchestrated and thoroughly enjoyed by all.  Tess Hawes and Amy Holewinski were the chairs for the party and they greeted everyone at the entry, with a name tag and a schedule for the evening.

The delicious food and cocktails were catered by Lon Lane and entertainment was provided by our students.  Ethan L. set the tone at the piano as guests arrived.  Then he accompanied Ella G., Olivia S., Journey U., Grace C., and Janie C. as they sang and swayed to two songs.  All were dressed as nicely as the guests and performed with style and smiles!  Later a band joined the party and added their musical talents to the ambiance.

Mary Morris and Mary Wetzel are the chairs for our April 12th auction at Starlight Theater.  They have been planning for the better part of a year for an evening of camaraderie, entertainment, and fundraising for the school with the theme, Great Expectations.  Our expectations to date have not only been met but exceeded so be sure to buy your tickets as soon as they are available for what will surely be another night to remember.

Thank you SO much to John and Marny Sherman for hosting this first special party in their lovely home.

Random Acts of Kindness
The first graders in Mrs.Waller's and Ms. Lorfing’s class got together back in December and decided it would be fun to perform random acts of kindness toward the faculty and staff here at St. Paul’s.  They brainstormed ways to “kind” someone and it was agreed that tissue paper flowers would be made.  The parents in the class also got involved by donating glass jars or vases to hold the beautiful flower arrangements.

One parent who happened to be working with the famous “Kansas City Secret Santa” was given a nice, crisp $100 bill to give away.  This parent added to the kindness by donating the $100 bill to this first grade class. Everyone in the class was thrilled! It was decided that since the teachers and staff love going to Starbucks, they would use the contribution to buy 16, $5 gift cards to give away and the remaining $20 was left at Starbucks as a donation to the free coffee program.  This is a fund  to which anyone can donate in order to give coffee to those in need.  The children had so much fun on their mini field trip to Starbucks to explain to the employees what they were doing! The employees were so excited to see small children performing random acts of kindness and donating money for others in need.

Once the big day arrived, there were 30 tissue flower vases and 16 gift cards to hand out with a note attached that said, “You’ve been kind’d!”  It was a fun activity that taught everyone in the class that it doesn’t take much to show someone a little kindness, but that kindness can spread and cause a chain reaction.  That reaction was a building full of smiles, hugs, laughter, tears, warmth and love!

St. Paul's Maintenance to the Rescue!
When the coils on the fan power box that delivers the heat to the second floor commons area froze and burst, the first thing our maintenance team did was get the water shut off to get the leak stopped. City Wide Services sent out an extraction team to start getting the water off of the carpet and tile. Larry and Carlos moved all of the chairs out of the way and started cleaning the ceiling tile and rust off of the chairs. They had new ceiling tile in before school started the next day and the room was ready to be used. Thanks team!
